Thanks to arrangements made on our behalf by our member Roy, M3RGB with his long-standing friend Mick (the Curator) we were graced with a private evening visit to The Newark Air Museum on 16th May 2003 and an excellent welcome.
This was not the first contact between MMARS and NAM - one of our members proudly lists a QSL card of theirs among his collection - the occasion being a Special Event GB2NAM on 21st April 1982 - 21 years prior to our visit! The operator at Newark at the time being George G3ZOA.

Not surprisingly we met up with a certain Avro Shackleton (one of only four known preserved) during our visit!!

The Museum justifiably boasts "60 aircraft and cockpits from across the history of aviation extensive under cover displays of aircraft as well as artefacts and aero engines" but there is much more to see and enjoy in this Museum which celebrated 30 years of official public opening in 2003. They have a large souvenir shop and café and the site has easy access from the A1, A46, A17, A1133 (there is a map displayed on the web pages) and is open every day (except 24, 25 and 26 December) from 10:00 such is the dedication of its stalwart band of volunteers.

There are of course admission charges - very modest and currently:
There is a regular programme of special events - published on the website - and many activities.

We are most grateful to the Museum for a most enjoyable visit and would highly recommend that others take the opportunity to see this magnificent display - allowing much more time and daylight than we were able to on this first visit.
MMARS expressed its thanks by a donation to the Charity's funds.
