MMARS VISIT THE PARISH CHURCH TOWER

The Parish Church viewed from Corn Hill
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Howard, G6KQP to find increasingly interesting items for our Events and Visits schedule and to the kindness of Matthew Bradwell, MMARS were invited to:- at St. Mary's Parish Church, Melton Mowbray on Tuesday 19th August 2003. Members who were able to attend were G6KQP, G3STG, G3NVK, MØRIA (with his daughter Rachel and a Japanese visitor Yasuko) and GØWYM.

For full details of the bells A HISTORY OF MELTON MOWBRAY BELLS is a fascinating compilation of information by Matthew Bradwell (pictured below atop the tower) and is part of his own website MATTHEW BRADWELL's PLACE - not surprisingly sound is part of the offered detail.

In addition to the bells the Tower houses the clock mechanism and musical chimes machinery including the oft-heard "The Bluebells of Scotland" Church Clock mechanism detail board

In addition to Yasuko from Japan we were graced with the arrival of a carrier pigeon -
Terry and Dick (both being members of RSARS) thinking maybe it was carrying a message
from Royal School of Signals, Blandford!
